Sami-Matti Trogen starts the iRacing Rallycross World Championship today
Sami-Matti Trogen takes part to the iRacing Rallycross World Championship with a wild card, and his goal is to end up in the top five.
This year, the iRacing Rallycross World Championship contains in total of nine races. The series starts today 5th of October at Atlanta Motor Speedway where the series will also end on 30th of November.
The 17-year-old Sami-Matti Trogen takes part to the series for the first time. This year Trogen was chosen as part of the Set Promotion’s SET Esport -team, which also attends the series for the first time.
- It’s great that I was chosen in the team, I’m glad to be part of it and I think that this is an amazing opportunity, and I’m going to do my best in the team, Trogen tells.
Trogen, the member of the national junior team of motorsport, Flying Finn Academy, is making a motorsport career also in his “real life". Last year he won the championship in RX Academy and this year he races in the RX2 International -series, which is raced together with the Rallycross World Championship. Before the last race round he is fifth in the series. He has also raced with Formula 4 -cars for one year, and therefore has experience from many different sports.
- It’s fun to see how much I can bring my experiences to the Esport world. During the last month I have practiced as much as I can and we’ll see where it gets me, Trogen thinks.
This year, there will be 28 drivers around the world participating in the Wolrd Championship series. All drivers have made it through the high-class and though qualifying series. Overall four Finnish drivers were able to get themselves into the series. Last year's championship runner-up Joni Heikkinen and Tommi Hallman will be Trogen's team mates. Also Otto Taskinen will be seen in the Finnish colours.
- We have practiced together with Heikkinen and Hallman for the last months. Working with them has been developing and nice, they have become good friends for me and we keep in touch daily. Now all the work has been done and we’ll see how far it can take me in the series, Trogen ends.
